In an operation carried out during the early hours of the morning, the President of the Republic, José Jerí Oréled the transfer of 45 inmates classified as highly dangerous to the new extreme security pavilion of the Ancón I prison.
This environment is intended for inmates sentenced for serious crimes such as hitmen, extortion, qualified homicide and aggravated robbery, and is part of the measures announced by the Executive to reinforce penitentiary control and the principle of authority in the country.
Among the transferred prisoners, figures linked to criminal organizations stand out, such as Jhon Jairo Arancibia, alleged member of the Los Injertos del Norte gang, and Adam Smith Lucano Cotrina, alias El Jorobado, identified as the leader of a criminal network dedicated to extortion and armed attacks.
During the supervision of the operation, the president was accompanied by the Minister of Justice, Walter Martínez, who ratified the implementation of the new special closed regime for relocated inmates.
This regime contemplates a reduction in family visits to once every 15 days, in addition to mandatory confinement inside the cells for 22 hours a day. The rooms lack plugs or access to electrical connections, in order to prevent communication and remote operation of illicit activities.
The operation was carried out by the Special Operations Group (GOES) of the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) and had the support of 50 agents from the National Directorate of Special Operations (Dinoes) of the National Police of Peru. According to official information, the entire deployment was carried out without incident.
The measure is part of the state of emergency decreed for 30 days in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, and seeks to reinforce direct control within prisons to prevent the continuity of extortion networks and murder orders that, according to fiscal and police investigations, are managed from penitentiary centers.
The president of INPE, Iván Paredes, as well as representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office, were also present in supervising the transfer, as part of the guarantees of transparency and respect for human rights protocols within the prison system.
