Colombia is waiting for the gasoline hike which was announced by President Gustavo Petro.

The decision was made for face the deficit of the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund (Fepc), whose debt amounts to $15.9 billion only during the second quarter and July and August 2022, according to the Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Vélez.
The Minister of Finance, José Antonio Ocampo, has already announced that the increase will be seen in october and clarified that this hike will be small so as not to impact inflation.
Nevertheless, “next year, when other items of inflation begin to drop, the adjustment can be made a little faster“.

Faced with this imminent scenario, the opposition party Democratic Center He asked the Government that the price increases be targeted, that is, that it not be for everyone.
Specifically, it requested special rates for passenger and cargo transport and for public transport by motorcycle.
“They are fundamental sectors so as not to affect the growth of the economy, essential for the logistics and supply chain of the country, and facilitators of the exercise of rights such as work, education, health and others.“, argued the Democratic Center.

“The differential rate could be given at the pump or with returns, through bonuses or coupons, or with discounts in the Soat“, he added.
Given this, President Petro responded on his Twitter account and said that the opposition party’s proposal coincides “with the structuring that we make of the price of gasoline“.
