Government supports cooperation agreement to certify sustainable companies

LATU and the Union of Exporters of Uruguay (UEU) agreed to promote the Green Export Unit, in order to promote the process towards the economic, social and environmental sustainability of the sector. The event included the participation of the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Omar Paganini; the president of LATU, Ruperto Long, and the president of UEU, Andrea Roth.

The Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, stated that there is a commitment and quality agreement on the Government’s public agenda, through the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU) and the “tenacious insistence” of the Union of Exporters of Uruguay in the search for solutions, claims and public and private interaction for access to the necessary competitiveness.

Delgado indicated that today Uruguay is recognized for quality standards, and that the challenge is the sustainability of the products, because that is the differential of the country and the export sector. He added that sustainability should be made part of the country brand.

The hierarch stressed that it is necessary to bet on training to be in line with global demands and because sustainability generates tariff opportunities and enables financing. The “green economy” incorporated in this Government crosses government and business decisions, he said.

For his part, the president of LATU, Ruperto Long, said that today’s world has other requirements, based on the demands of the final buyer, who seeks differentiated products with guarantees of sustainability and environmental care.

In her speech, the president of the Union of Exporters, Andrea Roth, indicated that export trends with environmental responsibility have been detected for 10 years, so they will seek to inform and train companies on aspects related to sustainability. She added that their progress will be validated through a certification platform with inclusion and transparency policies so as not to lose markets, and a manual for companies with sustainability in business models will be created, among other improvements.
