Government submits new National Education Plan to Congress

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed this Wednesday (26) the bill that institutes the new National Education Plan (PNE) for the period from 2024 to 2034. The text, forwarded for analysis by the National Congress, foresees 18 objectives, included in the themes of early childhood education, literacy, elementary and secondary education, comprehensive education, diversity and inclusion, professional and technological education, higher education, structure and functioning of basic education.

The proposal contains 58 goals and, for each goal, a set of strategies that express the main policies, programs and actions involving the Union, states and municipalities, to achieve the proposed objectives.

Among the PNE’s innovations is the emphasis on the quality of education provision, with objectives and goals focused on achieving quality standards in early childhood education, professional and technological education, higher education and teacher training. There are also specific objectives for the types of indigenous school education, rural education and quilombola school education, related to expanding access for these students. The project maintains goals for the target audiences of special education and bilingual education for the deaf.
