The governor of Bolívar, Yamil Arana Padauí, expressed its disagreement with the decision of the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC) not to finance the project of the Montemariana University, an initiative that sought to expand access to higher education in Montes de María and the center of the department.
The president indicated that the project had technical feasibility of the Ministry of Education, in addition to the support of the Territory Renewal Agency (ART) and other national entities. However, the refusal of the MinTIC stopped the process when only the signature of the counterpart resource was missing.

“After a year of work and meeting all the technical requirements, today the new ICT Ministry comes out to say that it cannot finance the project. I am very disappointed. The president has given clear guidelines on supporting education and regional development, but it seems that some officials do not comply with them,” said Arana.
The governor recalled that the Montemariana University project was promised by President Gustavo Petro during a meeting with communities victims of the conflict in the Montes de María. On his social networks, Arana reiterated the call to the head of state.

“President Gustavo Petro, a year ago you promised the victims of the conflict in the Montes de María a University. We already have the viability of @Mineducacion, we are just waiting for the MinTIC signs the counterpart of resources, but we still have no news. We only have one day left.”
Arana regretted that these types of decisions affect efforts to bring educational opportunities to the areas most affected by violence and poverty. “I am disappointed in politics, because people are deceived and commitments are not fulfilled. Even so, we are not going to give up. From the Government we will look for alternatives, because we are not going to leave the communities in the center of Bolívar stranded,” he pointed out.
The project of the Montemariana University is considered a historic commitment to guarantee access to education higher in rural areas of the department, especially in municipalities such as El Carmen de Bolívar, San Jacinto and María La Baja.
