Santo Domingo.- The Government of President Luis Abinader has an ambitious transport works plan for the entire country in the pipeline, ranging from the construction, repair, expansion, paving and signaling of roads, to the construction of new bridges, sidewalks and embankments.
In total there are 142 projects that the Government has scheduled to execute in terms of transit, for which an investment of RD$1,588,557,101 pesos is estimated for each one, for a duration of five years, some of which are still have not started.
Almost two years after the road solutions on Avenida República de Colombia had to be completed, none of the projects designed have yet started, while the situation is getting worse due to the number of residential areas that have exits through this important artery of the capital.
According to data posted on the Mapainvesiones platform, an initiative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) that seeks to improve transparency and efficiency in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Corredor Duarte II project, had an estimated duration of one year, starting in 2021 and an estimated cost of RD$2,828,928,318.
The works contemplated are: the construction and expansion of lanes in the Republic of Colombia, between Los Próceres and Conquistadores avenues; the construction of an underpass in the Republic of Colombia with the intersection of Sol Poniente; construction of a distributor in the Republic of Colombia with the Jacobo Majluta intersection; the construction of an elevated in the Republic of Colombia with the intersection of the Monumental and the construction of operational returns in Colombia.
The project in charge of the Ministry of Public Works is in a paralyzed stage, and according to the technical file, in 2016 RD$10 million pesos from the general budget were programmed and executed, but from then on it does not show any other investment no progress of work.

Another project on the agenda and that has not started is the improvement of the road infrastructure in the north-south connection of Santo Domingo, which includes the construction of a one-way traffic tunnel on Máximo Gómez avenue with 27 de Febrero, other tunnels on Avenida Tiradentes with 27 de Febrero; one in Lincoln with 27; others at Churchill with 27; in 27 with Private; on 27 de Febrero with Conabo, one on Luperón with Plaza de la Bandera and on 27 de Febrero with Isabel Aguiar avenue.
The Mapainvesiones platform visualizes and maps public investment projects, allowing citizens to monitor in real time where and how the Government of the Dominican Republic invests, the progress of the works, their cost, executor and status.
Other works in progress in terms of transportation are the first stage of the Azua beltway, which is being executed at an estimated cost of 2,673 million pesos. For this year, a budget of 103 million 604 thousand 905 pesos was assigned, of which 89 million 455 thousand 407 pesos have already been executed, which represents 86.34% of the amount.
The Baní beltway is also being built at an estimated cost of 3,652 million pesos, which the Government plans to deliver at the beginning of 2023, the reconstruction of Avenida Ecológica in Santo Domingo Este, which will reach Ciudad Juan Bosch, and which will cost four thousand 467 million pesos, with a budget programming for this year of 79 million 279 thousand 249 pesos, of which 75 million 239 thousand pesos have been executed, equivalent to 94.90%, among others.
The Government will also build three parking buildings in the National Detritus with a capacity for 1,710 spaces in a first stage, distributed in a six-story parking lot, which will be located near the Ministry of Labor, in the Centro de los Héroes with 590 parking spaces. ; one with four levels on Avenida México, near the Ministry of Finance with 470 parking spaces, and another with seven levels on Abraham Lincoln, with capacity for 650 parking spaces, at an estimated cost of 922 million pesos.
Of these works, the largest number is executed in the Santo Domingo province with 24, equivalent to 15%, in the National District 21, 13%; in Santiago 10 are executed, 6.3%; in Puerto Plata eight works, 5.1%; in Monte Plata, Azua and Hato Mayo six works, which represent 3.8% in each of those provinces; five in Elías Piña, Montecristi, Bahoruco, Duarte and La Altagracia 3.2%; four other works are being built in Barahona, San Pedro, Peravia and El Seibo, which represents 2.5% for each of these provinces, these demarcations being the ones with the most works to improve transportation.
