Government seeks to avoid third failure in appointment of National Prosecutor and urges the Senate to “concur with the support”

The Minister of Justice, Marcela Ríos, referred to the third nomination of the Government of President Gabriel Boric for the position of National Prosecutor, replacing the widely questioned Jorge Abbott.

Specifically, the candidate chosen by La Moneda is another questioned, the lawyer Ángel Valencia. This, for the defense that he made to a former judge formalized for sexual abuse and a psychologist convicted of repeated rape against a minor, to name a few.

After the nomination, the head of Justice pointed out that “for our Government it is particularly important to be able to move forward with this process. This is the third nomination that this Government has made, we hope that the Senate can attend with the support, with the votes of the different benches, to have a National Prosecutor’s Office functioning with all its faculties”.

“We have been carrying out a process of permanent dialogue with the Senate and we have, at all times, sought out people who meet the competencies and who also arouse support in the different benches,” Ríos added.

Asked if this opportunity will be the final one, the Minister of Justice stated that “we believe that the country needs the third time to be the charm. This is important for Chilean men and women, it is not a political cock.”
