Government says there is no agreement on severance pay in the reform of the Labor Code

Santo Domingo, DR.- The Dominican government presented this Monday a series of reforms that it has agreed upon with labor unions and employers to modify the Labor Code.

However, he said he had failed to reach a consensus on the unemployment benefit, This is the point that has made the reform of the Labor Code, which has been discussed for more than a decade, impossible.

During his usual meeting in LA Semanal with the Press, President Luis Abinader reported that There is consensus among employers, unions and the government for a modification to the Labor Code.

He explained that it includes aspects related to vacation days, paternity and conciliation between employers and workers. This is to reduce the number of lawsuits in labor courts.

The details of the agreed points were presented at the LA Semanal meeting on Monday, August 26. These details were made known by the Minister of Labor, Luis Miguel De Camps.

In addition, President Abinader said that the draft reform to the Labor Code will be brought to the National Congress in the next ten days.
