The federal government intends to bring forward some of the goals set out in the notice, aiming for the universalization of mobile telephony. The expectation is that, in the case of public schools, 100% will have access to the internet by the end of 2026, reported, this Tuesday (2), the Minister of Communications, Frederico de Siqueira Filho, during the program Bom Dia, Minister, produced, in Brasília, by Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC).
According to the minister, connecting all public schools is a government priority as it understands the importance of this for the educational development of young people and children. “Regarding broadband in schools, 100% of public schools will be connected by the end of 2026, with technology through fiber optics or satellite solutions,” said Siqueira Filho.
“This is our commitment”, he added, referring to the schools registered with the Ministry of Education that are receiving resources from the Fund for the Maintenance and Development of Basic Education and the Valorization of Education Professionals (Fundeb).
Regarding the expansion of fifth generation internet (5G), Siqueira Filho said that, recently, coverage exceeded 64%, a result that is above the 57% predicted for 2027 by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel).
Technology
“We have more than two thousand cities with this new technology. The idea is that, increasingly, we can expand this technology to more municipalities to serve this population. So, in addition to 5G, we are also concluding the implementation of 4G in rural areas and districts of our Brazil”, he said.
The minister also stated that the definition of the cities that will receive the service is established depending on the size of the population. “First it went to the large centers of the capitals. Now, it’s the outskirts”, he assessed.
“In 2025, we will connect 1,500 locations in districts in rural areas with this technology to enable mobile connectivity for this population. And in 5G, in large centers, we have already served 67% of the territory foreseen in the notice”, he added.
The government intends to launch, next January, a new auction for the 700 MHz band. “This will give even more capillarity with new companies expanding coverage. The new auction includes locations with over 600 inhabitants, with 5G mobile technology. This is our goal”, he concluded.
