The director of the Victims Unit, Lilia Solano, met this Thursday with the attorney general, Luz Adriana Camargo, to “request support from the prosecutors in charge, so that through them, the Justice and Peace chambers can be asked to expedite the process of forfeiture of ownership of the missing assets”.

By filing a formal request they hope to be able to “monetize the assets seized or transferred by former paramilitaries to compensate the victims included in the sentences” of Justice and Peace, the court created to judge the paramilitaries United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC).

This is because according to the Unit, one of the greatest difficulties they have in the administration of the assets of the Victims Fund is unauthorized occupation, “since of the total number, 1,383 are in this state, becoming an administrative and economic burden for the Unit, representing a detriment to public resources,” estimated this entity.

Solano pointed out after the meeting that 411 goods delivered by 10 former paramilitaries, designated as peace managers by the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, are not found in the inventory of assets of the Fund for the Reparation of Victims.
