Government requested the change of management in the Federation of Coffee Growers

This Friday, the general manager of the National Federation of Colombian Coffee Growers, Roberto Vélez Vallejo, made his position available to the Government and the board of directors of the FNC in order to begin a succession process under which the National Congress of Coffee Growers will elect his successor.

(Manager of the Federation of Coffee Growers ‘made his position available’).

The departure of Vélez occurs after the President Petro will request the position to start the new election of the general manager.

This was stated by Roberto Vélez himself during a press conference within the framework of the 90th National Congress of Coffee Growers that is advancing this Friday, in Bogotá.

“I tell you honestly, they called me from the Palacio de Nariño and told me that the president wanted this union to start the process of electing a new general manager, I also have to tell you that this is a union that has lived its entire life a harmonious relationship with the National Government and that joint work of the government and the coffee growers is needed to be able to give results to 546,000 families”, said the union leader.

(Government would be willing to buy Monomers, said Minhacienda).

For his part, Roberto Vélez stated that President Petro intends to work with someone he trusts and that the biggest challenge that “he or she” will have (referring to the person who will occupy the position) is the renewal of coffee crops. .

“I don’t think there is anything against Roberto Vélez, I am sure that the President’s intention is to have someone who is similar to what he needs”Vélez finished off.

The management of the National Federation of Coffee Growers is a key position for the Government because it is the flagship export product other than oil and mining, and that It brings together some 540,000 families dedicated to the harvest and production of coffee.

(Coffee growers’ concerns regarding the tax reform).

For the election of the new president of the FNC, nominations are made from the regional coffee grower committees and even from the Government to put together a shortlist from which Vélez’s replacement will come.
