Government recognizes rise in vehicle theft crimes and announces Antilock Plan

The Government of President Gabriel Boric recognized an increase in the crime of vehicle theft, among which “door slams” and “encerronas” stand out.

Given this, the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches, not only distinguished an increase, but also a mutation in crimes related to car theft, for which she announced that the Anti-Lockout Plan is underway.

“There is an ongoing Anti-Lockout Plan; the operation of these crimes has been mutating, we are concerned about how this threatens the functioning of cities and puts people at risk and in the face of this we are working on being able to complement the measures that are already in place. course to stop the increase in these cases,” he told Radio BioBío.

Along the same lines, the national prosecutor, Jorge Abbott, expressed concern about the risks associated with these crimes, where motorists try to thwart these situations, since avoiding them could mean harming innocent civilians or threatening their own lives.

“The situation in which drivers are exposed, who after trying to evade, well end up injuring sometimes innocent people or perhaps the criminals themselves, is undoubtedly a cause for special concern in the approach that we are carrying out with respect to this type of crime,” he concluded.
