On January 10, Venezuela also announced the closure of the border with Colombia, as a security measure for the presidential inauguration. According to the statements of the governor of Táchira, Fredy Bernal, the measure corresponded to the existence of information that indicates an alleged international conspiracy.

«We have information of an international conspiracy to disturb the peace of Venezuelans and especially in this border area. In that sense, I call for the understanding of all sectors of society, ranchers, businessmen, entrepreneurs and people who normally circulate between Colombia and Venezuela, to understand why we are going to order the closure of the border with Colombia from the 5:00 am today until 5:00 am Monday,” he explained.
So far it is unknown if the measure also includes land borders.
