Government promotes incentives to capture international audiovisual productions

The Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), through the National Directorate of Telecommunications and Audiovisual Communication Services (Dinatel), presented the 2022 call for the Uruguay Audiovisual program (PUA). This initiative supports foreign productions made in whole or in part in the country, by reimbursing a percentage of the investment.

This line of action, led by the aforementioned portfolio, is carried out together with the National Development Agency (ANDE), the National Film and Audiovisual Institute (Incau) and Uruguay XXI.

In an interview with Presidential Communication, the head of Dinatel, Guzmán Acosta y Lara, stressed that the program is part of the strengthening policy promoted by the Government for the audiovisual sector.

In addition, he specified that this launch is aimed at the international area, so that different platforms that carry out productions abroad can be fully or partially developed in Uruguay.

Through this work, the production services of feature films, short films, video clips, animations, documentaries, series and television programs are promoted. For this, a percentage of the total amount of the activities is reimbursed. For the implementation of PUA 2022, there will be support of up to 7 million dollars.

Acosta y Lara explained that during 2021 some 15 projects were approved, which made it possible for the sector to close the year favorably. “The audiovisual sector is an industry that continues to produce and grow,” he said.

The total amount of the project must be at least US$300,000, except for activities dedicated to post-production only, for which the minimum required spend is US$150,000.

Regarding the benefit, the reimbursement depends on the amount of the investment and includes three percentage bands, with a maximum support limit, depending on the category to which it is presented, which reaches 25%.

The application must be made on the website Uruguay Audiovisual. The call period runs until December 31.
