Government promises barracks in Uruapan and a stop to extortion; Quiroz grants a vote of confidence

The young man who shot Manzo was allegedly executed after being arrested on the spot, according to what state authorities have stated.

”Almost two weeks have passed and we are still waiting for information from the Prosecutor’s Office. The Paricutin Plan sounds nice, ostentatious, but I told Harfuch that the citizens’ feeling is fed up,” Grecia Quiroz said about her meeting with the federal official.

”There is social distrust, I told them. The citizens no longer believe. There is no hope in the government, but I wanted to give them a bit of my vote of confidence,” he added.

Quiroz asked Harfuch that federal elements go into the Michoacan hills, where, he assured, the members of the cartels are hiding.

”It is of no use to us that they walk among the citizens, what people want is to work. In the meeting with the president of Mexico, it was the same dynamic, demanding justice for Carlos. Uruapan is tired and we are united,” Quiroz said this afternoon.

Grecia took office as substitute mayor days after the attack against Carlos Manzo. The members of the Hat Movement, founded by her husband, have shown their support, even to the point of saying that they will encourage her to be the next governor of Michoacán.

Omar García Harfuch, head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), toured the streets of Uruapan, Michoacán, this Thursday, prior to his meeting with Mayor Grecia Quiroz.

The federal Security Cabinet traveled to Morelia today to present the “Plan Michoacán”, a strategy that is expected to reduce violence in the state.

In Uruapan, Harfuch led the presentation of the ”Paricutin Plan”, which will involve the deployment of federal forces in the region.

In Morelia, before traveling to Uruapan, Harfuch met with General Ricardo Trevilla, Secretary of Defense; with Hernán Cortés Hernández, commander of the National Guard; with Admiral Raymundo Morales, Secretary of the Navy, and with Lázaro Cárdenas Batel, head of the Office of the Presidency.

In the capital of Michoacán, the officials were received by Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla and Carlos Torres, prosecutor of Michoacán.

Torres reported before the event that the investigation into the homicides of Carlos Manzo, mayor of Uruapan, and Bernardo Bravo, lemon leader, is advancing.

“We are going to work in coordination with other entities so that the arrests are made as soon as possible. There are constant operations in Tierra Caliente. Starting last week, more personnel from the Army and the National Guard have arrived and that has allowed us to do a lot of filters and reviews in Tierra Caliente,” Torres told local media.

The Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice prioritizes attention to the causes of violence, institutional strengthening and coordination between the three levels of government.

It includes the sending of 10,506 elements of the National Guard, the Army and the Navy, in addition to a border containment of 4,140 troops on the borders with Colima, Jalisco, Querétaro, Guanajuato, the State of Mexico and Guerrero.

In total, the new stage of security in the entity involves the deployment of more than 12,000 federal elements:

– 10,506 from the Secretariat of National Defense and the National Guard.

– 1,781 from the Navy, within the framework of the Paricutin Operations Plan, with priority presence in Lázaro Cárdenas, Aquila and Coahuayana.

– Added to them are 277 elements from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), supported with 70 new patrols already deployed in different areas of the state.
