Government presents a new country construction code

Santo Domingo. – The Minister of Housing and Buildings (MIVED), Carlos Bonilla, the new one presented this Thursday Construction Code of the Dominican Republic (CDCRD), which unifies and updates the regulations of the sector, in order to raise the security, efficiency and quality of buildings in the country.

The new code introduces innovations such as a continuous review scheme, the incorporation of new technical specifications, structural analysis methodologies and the first seismic zoning map of the Dominican Republic, which will allow to design buildings with greater security against natural events.

Among the main advantages of the compendium are uniformity in processes, greater public confidence, alignment with international standards and best engineering practices, as well as a reduction of costs and discretion in constructions.

The implementation of the Construction Code of the Dominican Republic will be staggered, with a transition phase that includes education, dissemination and technical assistance.

The Minister of Housing and Buildings, Carlos Bonilla, said that the new construction code constitutes “a state decision that puts the security of people and the quality of the works in the center.”

Bonilla stressed that the Code will serve as a common reference for construction throughout the national territory, establishing a single standard that prioritizes both citizen security and the quality of the works.

“As Minister of the Government of President Luis Abinader, I want to reaffirm something essential: in the Dominican Republic the law is fulfilled. This code is born with a vocation to be fulfilled. We will maintain zero tolerance in front of the construction outside the norm and, at the same time, we will provide training and accompaniment for effective adoption. There will be technical guides, training and consultation spaces to support professionals, developers, municipalities, municipalities, condominium meetings” indicated.

The official said that the code does not simply represent a set of rules, but a commitment of rigor, transparency and responsibility in everything that is built in the country. He stressed that it will be the common reference for construction throughout the national territory, establishing a single standard that unifies criteria, orders processes and offers means of verification that reduce improvisation and discretion.

“The impact will be direct in everyday life: clearer calculations and plans, strengthened inspections, materials with verifiable specifications and a transparent route from design to the finished work. More security, less risk. More quality, less uncertainty,” said Bonilla.

The process of preparing this code was developed in several phases that included technical review, public consultations and socialization with key actors from the nation’s construction sector. With this presentation, the country enters the publication, training and implementation stage, with the forecast of a transition from six to twelve months before the full application of the regulations.
