A fourth criminal process was opened against the former mayor of Santa Cruz, Angélica Sosa, promoted from the Government and for the same crime: legitimization of illegal profits. The case has been in La Paz for two weeks, and the lawyer Jerjes Justiniano pointed out to the current mayor of Santa Cruz, Johnny Fernández, of being behind this case.
“This process, which begins in La Paz, is nothing more than product of the political agreement that exists between Johnny Fernández and the MAS. What Johnny (Fernández) wants is, on all sides, to prevent the former mayor from leaving pretrial detention,” said the defense attorney; He added that they were not notified of the new case and that they will appear in La Paz to file their judicial appeals.
From December 2021 the Former mayor is in preventive detention due to the ‘Ghost Items’ case, other processes such as ‘Prestín’ and ‘BTR’ followed. According to the defense attorney, in two of the three cases, the crime is legitimization of illegal proceeds and, therefore, this would be the third process for the same crime.
“It will be two years now and the Mayor did not take any steps in the case; he only preaches a supposed fight against corruption; but so far did not present the 800 contracts that it says there are. He did not carry out an audit either, and he does not say how much economic damage there would be; then it is clear that it is a political case”, explained Justiniano.
Said the former mayor is about to achieve her freedom because, in more than a year, they could not prove anything and even less set up a trial, because there is no accusation of any of the three investigations.
According to the data they were able to access, Justiniano said that it would be a process raised by the Ministry of Justice, through the Vice Ministry of Transparency and they presented it in La Paz in “frank ignorance” of the processes that exist in Santa Cruz. For this reason, one of the first measures, he said, will be to present an exception of incompetence of the judge from La Paz.
