Bashar al-Assad left power in Syria after 24 years and left the country after reaching an agreement with the rebels and receiving asylum in Moscow.
The administration of Nicolás Maduro issued a statement this Monday, December 9, in which it states that it is following with “care” the events taking place in Syria, after the fall of Bashar al Assad’s government was recorded on Sunday the 8th; after 11 days of offensive by the rebels supported by Türkiye.
In the text, the Executive expressed its hope that a path can be found in Syria to peacefully resolve its differences without “external interference or the use of violence” as a mechanism to address political problems.
He took the opportunity in the text to reiterate his commitment to the preservation of the territorial unity in that country, as well as the defense of its sovereignty, independence and “absolute respect for the values enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

In that sense, he emphasized the importance of respecting the civil, political and human rights of the Syrian population, including the protection and peaceful coexistence of all religious, cultural and ethnic expressions that live there.
He urged the international community to promote solutions that contribute to peace and put violence aside.
“The tyrant Bashar al Assad has fled” and “we declare the city of Damascus free,” the rebel movement expressed on Telegram. Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), which called on citizens abroad to return to a “Free Syria” after the departure of Al Assad, who has led the country since 2000, from the country.
They added that “after 50 years of oppression under the command of the Baath (party) and 13 years of crimes and forced displacement (…) we announce today the end of this dark period and the beginning of a new era for Syria.”
After leaving Syria through the Damascus airport, Bashar al Assadreceived asylum in Russia, a Kremlin source informed the TASS agency.
«The president of Syria, Assad, arrived with his family in Moscow. “Russia, based on humanitarian criteria, offered him asylum,” the source said.
He added that “Russia has always advocated the search for a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.”
