The government of São Paulo announced today (29) that it will increase the value of tickets for the metro rail system in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, made up of trains and the subway. As a result, tickets go from the current R$5.20 to R$5.40. The new fare value will start on January 6th.
According to the São Paulo government, the adjustment is 3.85%, “a percentage lower than the inflation of the period, estimated at 4.46% by IPC-Fipe”.
“The objective of the adjustment is to guarantee the efficiency, safety and quality of the service provided to the population, ensuring the continuity of the operation of the metropolitan public transport system. Even with the adjustment below inflation and to guarantee this fare value, the government of São Paulo will still contribute approximately R$5.1 billion to the metro-rail system”, informs the statement from the government of São Paulo.
In addition to adjustments to the subway and trains, there will be increase in bus ticket prices that circulate in the capital of São Paulo. In this case, the fares will go from R$5 to R$5.30. According to an announcement from the city of São Paulo, the increase in buses will also take effect on January 6th.
