Government of CDMX foresees recovery due to the sale of fish and shellfish in Lent

During the season of lent of 2022whose duration is from March 2 to April 14, an economic spill of 1,425 million pesos is projected for the sale of fish and shellfish in Mexico City, which means 40% more than in 2021, estimated the Secretariat of Economic Development (Sedeco) local.

According to the state agency, the estimate for the country’s capital could also be taken as a Economic recovery if it is compared to what happened in 2020, since in that year the sector was paralyzed because the Covid-19 pandemic began.

Precisely, at the end of March 2020, it was broadcast on the Official Gazette the Declaration of Sanitary Emergencya, with which mobility reductions were implemented, such as the closure of shopping centers, department centers, restaurants, inns and controlled-access parks.

The head of Sedeco, Fadlala Akabani Hneide, explained that within the projections for the 2022 Lenten season in the capital, they have identified that a positive impact will be generated for approximately 2,501 economic units (in them there are restaurants, retail and wholesale markets and marketers of perishable seafood).

“Only in the Nueva Viga Market, the second largest in the world for wholesale fish and shellfish, we expect profits of 568 million pesos,” reported the local secretary.

the owner of Sedeco revealed that in order to guarantee better commercialization and sanitary guidelines, operations will be implemented in the Nueva Viga Market, in this strategy the Federal Consumer Protection Office will participate (prophet), the local Health Agency and the Iztapalapa mayor’s office.

“In the next few days we will be announcing operations in coordination with Profeco, the Health Agency and the Iztapalapa mayor’s office,” said the state official.

“Sedeco Mexico City recommends that people who plan to visit their local supply centers to stock up on food for traditional Lent, comply with sanitary rules to avoid contagion by Covid-19,” added Akabani Hneide.
