He mentioned that of the 300 fields planned by the Clara Brugada government, 300 spaces have already been found, of which 60 will be built soccer fields, and 240 will be rehabilitated, because the places to practice the sport already exist.
He commented that these 300 fields will be equivalent to the recovery of 500 thousand square meters, so the work already began on December 10 and will end on February 28. In June, when the 2026 Soccer World Cup starts, the sports spaces will be ready.
The works to be carried out are:
– Rehabilitation of concrete pavements
– Rehabilitation of walls and perimeter bars
– Laying new synthetic grass
– General painting
– Installation of luminaires
– Creation of murals
– Lettering
– Placement or rehabilitation of urban and sports furniture
The Head of Government, Clara Brugada, commented that Mexico City seeks to stop being a spectator towards the World Cup, since now it intends to be a protagonist, experience this soccer tournament and create “seedbeds” of children for this sport.
“We are 176 days away from Mexico City making history again and hosting the World Cup for the third time (…) CDMX will give the opening whistle for the World Cup games and will become an epicenter of the World Cup party,” he commented.

He mentioned that they call this World Cup party “The ball comes home,” so they seek to show CDMX as a diverse, supportive and historical city, and commented that for more than 3,000 years “soccer was played here, in the great Tenochtitlán.”
He also said that for the City, the World Cup began with various activities, such as the childhood tournament, so nearly 1,800 games have already been held in which children from Álvaro Obregón and Iztacalco have participated.
“We want this World Cup to be experienced in the neighborhoods, we want improvements in all the sports fields, we want a World Cup where the ball rolls on the sports fields. We are talking about a World Cup with fair play and a fair society, where the rights of the population have to be guaranteed,” he declared.
For this reason, he commented that the neighborhoods around the Azteca Stadium, where the World Cup matches will be held, have already begun to be transformed. Among the changes that were made is ensuring sufficient water and that there are no floods.
Brugada commented that the works being done towards the World Cup will be permanent, since it will not only serve for the soccer tournament.
