Counselor Sofía Almeida left the Council building, where she remained for seven days; she assured that she felt unprotected.
This February 16, 2022, they were called to appear before the National Assembly on General Commander of the PoliceCarlos Cabrera and the government ministerAlexandra Vela, among other officials, in relation to the problems that occurred in the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS).
In a tense atmosphere, assembly members related to Correismo such as Luisa González, Ricardo Ulcuango and Ricardo Chávez, questioned the Sailing Minister for supposedly having favored the new majority of directors who dismissed Sofia Almeida of the Presidency of the organization. They assured that the interference occurred by sending a police deployment to the building of the Participation Council the night of February 9, after which Hernán Ulloa took office as President of the tip.
For Vela, this was a false accusation and he said that from the Government “they are not going to solve the problems.”
For his part, the General Commander of the Police explained that they sent 25 members of the Order Movement Unit because of an alert they had received about possible disturbances outside the building and that “any citizen can ask for support from the Police to take care of your safety.”
Nathalie Viteri (PSC) aligned herself with the accusatory position of the Correísta legislators by pointing out that what was done by the majority of the tipnow chaired by Ulloa, must be rendered invalid.
This debate took place on the sixth floor of the Assembly while in the Hall of Sessions of the Participation Council, Sofia Almeida assured, at a press conference, that he made three calls to the Police for protection and none was attended to, which is why he accuses the Government of interference. He assured that he felt “unprotected” so on February 16 he decided to leave the building of the Participation Council after staying indoors for seven consecutive days. (DLH)
