This afternoon, the Secretary of Energy reported that the payment owed to the company Petroport, SA, supplier of Tropigas, with whom it had a debt with the industry for $65 million, had already been made.
Through social networks, the Ministry of Energy said that the “National Government has proceeded to make the promised payment to Tropigas Panama to ensure that the company does not suspend the sale of a 25-pound tank for Panamanians.”
Earlier, the Secretary of Energy, Jorge Rivera Staff, would have reiterated that the government seeks to establish a system in which the beneficiaries of the 25-pound gas tank subsidy are registered, as is the case with the fuel subsidy.
Currently the subsidized gas tank has a price between 4.37 and 4.67 balboas depending on the area of the country where it is purchased, without the subsidy this tank would cost more than 16 balboas.
In the statements given by Rivera Staff, he also said that they are evaluating extending the fuel price subsidy by 3.25 balboas for a few more months.
