The measure indicates that Venezuelan passengers must have a valid passport or else they will have to request a “Travel Document”, a type of safe conduct at the Consulate or the Venezuelan Embassy accredited abroad and register it with the airline at least 72 hours before. of boarding. Those who have dual nationality will not be able to enter the country with the other document either.
The Venezuelan Government has new measures for passengers traveling to Venezuela to enter the national territory by air, measures that apply immediately, as reported in a Latam Airlines press release on Friday, September 27.
Venezuelan passengers must have their valid Venezuelan passport at the time of travel, and if they do not have their valid Venezuelan passport, they must request “Travel Documents” at the Consulate or Venezuelan Embassy accredited abroad and register it with the airline. at least 72 hours before boarding.
The measure communicated to the airlines by the Venezuelan authorities implies that Venezuelans with a Venezuelan identity card will not be allowed to board, even if it is valid, and that those Venezuelan passengers who have dual nationality must also present their current Venezuelan passport. But if the Venezuelan passport is expired, you will not be able to be boarded even if you have the passport of your other valid nationality.
The measure was approved by the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) and the Administrative Service for Identification, Migration and Immigration (Saime) after meeting with the airlines that still operate in Venezuela, according to unofficial information obtained by The Pitazo. Neither of these two entities has made it official through institutional communications.
Restriction of a right
The application for a “travel document” is a type of safe conduct that must be processed before the consulate of the country where they reside when a citizen loses, misplaces or has the document stolen. This option has been enabled since 2019 for Venezuelans who reside in countries where Venezuelan embassies or consulates are operational, but, for example, it could not be done for those who live in the United States, since there has been no Venezuelan consular representation in that country since then. .
But since July 29, one day after the presidential elections, the government of Nicolás Maduro also broke diplomatic and consular relations with Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama and the Dominican Republic.
Therefore, three days ago, the Saime reported that these cases would have to pick up their passports in Caracas: “Venezuelans who are outside the country and have processed their passport through the consulates that are closed, may go to our main headquarters in Caracas to collect the travel document.”
