Government launches “March Mobility Plan” to increase the frequency of public transport

March is approaching and with it the vacationers return to Santiago to resume their daily work during the year. For this reason, the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications prepared the “March Mobility Plan” with which they seek to make mobility more efficient.

As explained by the undersecretary of the ministry, Cristóbal Pineda, the objective is to increase the frequency of RED buses by between 30% and 35% in relation to February and have the entire fleet available at peak hours.

This means that there will be 1,500 more buses traveling in the Metropolitan Region, which would add up to 5,500 vehicles in total.

The same is expected in the Metro, which will also have its entire fleet available at rush hour, including the Alameda-Nos metro train.

Added to this is the optimization of the traffic light network and the increase in inspection of private vehicles so that they do not occupy the 60 exclusive lanes for public transport.
