Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader, together with Vice President Raquel Peña, led an extended meeting of ministers and directors in which a balance was passed on the preventive plans of public institutions in the face of possible consequences of tropical storm Fiona, which would reach national territory this Monday, September 19 between Santo Domingo and La Romana.

At the end of the meeting, the Administrative Minister of The presidencyJosé Ignacio Paliza, assured that “the Dominican government is up to the circumstances” and all due efforts are being made, preparing preventively and coordinating subsequent efforts to recover the most vulnerable areas that could be affected.

“President Abinader, in the exercise of his leadership, has wanted to know about each of the linked institutions, how they have been preparing, what are the initiatives to take into account” as well as the measures to be taken in the 48 hours after the passage of the atmospheric phenomenon, indicated Paliza.

Administrative Minister of the President meets with members of the relief agencies before possible passage of storm Fiona.

Storm Fiona could cause rainfall of up to 400 millimeters as it passes through the Dominican Republic, the effects of which could be felt as early as this Sunday night.

The director of Civil Defense, Juan Salas, indicated that the country has more than two thousand shelters with the capacity to accommodate more than 800 thousand people.

Likewise, they have 14,000 volunteers who will be reinforced as necessary.

In order to be able to provide a timely and effective response as the Dominican population deserves, the Government has carried out a survey of the power lines, the level of the dams, inventories of the Social Plan of the Presidency, the Economic Kitchens, INESPRE, Agriculture, the National Health Service, 911 and other institutions.

On his side, the director of the Emergency Operations Center, retired general Juan Manuel Méndez, recalled that 12 provinces are on yellow alert and seven on green alert.

Meanwhile, the director of the National Office of Meteorology, Gloria Ceballos, stated that storm Fiona is currently over the island of Guadalupe and maintains a trajectory towards the west at a speed of 42 km/h.

Along with them, the directors of the Police, Eduardo Then; of the Civil Defense, Juan Salas; of the Social Plan of the Presidency, Yadira Henríquez; of Supérate, Gloria Reyes; from the National Health Service, Mario Lama; from INDRHI, Olmedo Caba; from the CAASD, Fellito Suberví; among others.
