After the precipitous fall of the former head of advisers on the second floor, Lucía Dammert, which was attributed to the disagreements she had with the President’s Chief of Staff and personal friend, Matías Meza-Lopehandía, and, on the other hand, to the need to compensate the Democratic Revolution by putting former subdere Miguel Crispi in his place, a cluster bomb was launched by the Interference. Substantively, the article focused on the professional links that the sociologist had in the past with the former Secretary of Public Security of the Mexican government, Genaro García Luna, currently under investigation by the New York Prosecutor’s Office for his criminal connection with the cartel. of Sinaloa, while it was the most visible face of the war against narco launched by the Government of Felipe Calderón. According to the persecutors, García Luna was key to the criminal expansion of the cartel.
The departure from the second floor of La Moneda occurred days before the President’s future trip to the United States to attend the UN General Assembly next week, an event to which he would be accompanied by Dammert.
According to the aforementioned media, Dammert’s departure was triggered after an alert that Paula Narváez, Chile’s ambassador to the UN, would have sent to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonia Urrejola, in which she warned her that Dammert could not travel because she was involved ” in big trouble.”
Given the seriousness of this communication, the Government quickly came out to deny the existence of such an alert through a Foreign Ministry statement, describing it as “completely false”. Along these lines, the Ministry of Foreign Relations lamented that “it is intended to involve authorities of this portfolio in false assertions, based on unverified background” and call on the media “to be prudent and to handle information responsibly.” This same statement was quickly uploaded to the social networks of Ambassador Narváez herself.
That speed, however, contrasted with the silence of the government itself regarding the most substantive of the publication. This is whether or not the Government was aware that the Chief of Advisors had been an advisor or not to the former Mexican anti-drug czar, who has been imprisoned since 2019 for links to the powerful and bloody Sinaloa cartel. What’s more, the silence -which plays tacit confirmation- was maintained even until the exit of the Political Committee, where there was no government spokesperson who could be consulted about the seriousness of the information.
In her place, the presidents of the party of democratic socialism acted as spokespersons, who downplayed the seriousness of the matter and went on to say that the former adviser had already denied the information through her personal networks.
Indeed, hours after the publication of Interference, Lucía Dammert in a statement posted on Twitter vehemently denied the article’s claims, assuring that she had never been an advisor to the former Secretary of Security of the Government of Mexico. An assertion totally contradictory to what she herself and for years sustained, in her own Linkedin resume, where she states that she had been a senior adviser to the Secretary of Security of the Government of Mexico, precisely in the glory years of Genaro García Luna.
According to the publication, the inclusion of Dammert in the investigation carried out by the FBI began after analyzing telephone calls and other means of communication used by García Luna. Dammert appears in that context.
The former adviser to the Presidency wrote, together with García Luna, a series of books on police reform and security issues. One of them is “The New Police Model in Mexico”, written by her -along with other authors- and which has a prologue by García Luna.
