The Minister of National Defense, Maya Fernández, verified the deployment of members of the Armed Forces in the voting precincts set up in the country for the elections this Sunday.
In this context, the Minister of Defense traveled this Saturday to the National Stadium, where she toured the polling stations and the secret voting chambers of the place.
After the visit to the sports venue of the Ñuñoa commune, Minister Fernández pointed out that “we have toured the venues guarded by the three branches. Yesterday we were in the Biobío Region in Talcahuano where the Navy is, today first thing in the commune of El Bosque where the Air Force is and also here in the National Stadium where the Army is located, one of the largest and most emblematic places of voting that although today it is reduced in tables, it is very important to visit it”.
The Minister of Defense added that “there are more than 26 thousand men and women of the Armed Forces who are distributed throughout the country” for which she stressed that “there is order and tranquility as appropriate to guarantee that citizens can vote with tranquility”.
For his part, the head of the Regional Force, Division General Cristian Vial, reported that “in the Metropolitan Region we have deployed more than 17,500 members of the Armed Forces to guard the polling places that will operate in the 52 communes, with the purpose of that people can exercise their right to vote in a calm and safe way”.
The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, also participated in the opportunity; the presidential delegate of the Metropolitan Region, Constanza Martínez and the mayor of Ñuñoa, Emilia Ríos.
During the activity, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, announced the transportation facilities for the voters who attend the voting centers.
In this context, the head of Transport and Telecommunications pointed out that “regarding the authorization to enter the polling places with bicycles that governs from this process, tomorrow we have a big difference with respect to previous elections, thanks to the fact that the polling places , for the vast majority, will be much closer. And here the invitation is that hopefully, if there is the possibility of going in sustainable ways, walking, by bicycle and if not, by public transport, they can do it.”
For her part, the presidential delegate of the Metropolitan Region, Constanza Martínez stressed that “we are a quiet country that has institutions that work, at the same time we have had very sustained work with the Armed Forces, Police, Seremi of Transport and services to put all our work and disposition so that this is a calm and safe day”.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Ñuñoa, Emilia Ríos, stated that “we are recovering this voting space that has been historic in our commune in a process where the municipalities are deployed with their officials and officials in coordination with the other institutions, so that the tomorrow Chilean men and women can attend en masse to express their position before this historic plebiscite”.
It should be remembered that since 1941 the Armed Forces have guarded the security inside the country’s polling places.
