The Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches, announced that the Government withdrew the agreement proposal made to the carriers that continue to block the country’s highways, emphasizing that they will not rule out the application of the State Security Law with the requirement to release the ways.
“The Government has always been available for dialogue. Since the beginning of the truckers’ mobilizations, we have worked to respond to each of the demands that have been raised. Despite this, and without justification, they have continued to cut off the routes, limiting free circulation in our country, to the point of preventing the passage of an ambulance,” he said.
It should be noted that on Thursday night, and after receiving a document from the Executive with a series of commitments, the truckers agreed to lift the blockades, as long as they received a letter from Minister Izkia Siches with the measures in writing. Despite the fact that this was fulfilled, the carriers continued this Friday with the blockades, where on Route 5 South the road is cut off near Los Angeles, Biobío Region, with only one route enabled in each direction.
The carriers that continue to mobilize are members of the Freight Transport Workers Federation, who ask the Executive to retake the measure of the State of Exception in the southern zone, thus allowing the military presence in the sector in the face of acts of violence.
“For us as a government, it is important to convey to people in their homes that everything has a limit,” Siches added, emphasizing that for this reason “we withdrew the proposals with which we had worked and presented to the truck drivers.”
“We have had the best will to dialogue and work with all the organizations of carriers, truckers, and despite this, it is really inadmissible for us that this continues,” he concluded.
