The National Secretary of Sports, Sebastián Bauzá, highlighted, at the closing of the activity Cambiá la Jugada: In All Sports, Diversity of Identities, that the purpose of this unit is to promote the practice of sports as a right of all, regardless of the gender or diversity. In addition, he considered that the facilities of the athletics track are to be used and fulfill that objective.
The event was held this Friday the 16th, at the Batlle Park athletics track, in Montevideo, within the framework of Diversity Month, to promote and guarantee access and inclusion of the LGBT+ population in sports free of discrimination. Different activities led by Physical Education teachers from the Sports Secretariat and the CH Municipality were developed, in a day of recreation for people of all identities.
The manager of the Sociocultural Promotion Area of the Ministry of Social Development (Mides), Rosa Méndez, and the national director of Social Development, Cecilia Sena, among other authorities and athletes, also attended.
Bauzá believed that physical activity should be carried out all year round, because it generates inclusion, improvement and happiness, and that the way is to have the facilities so that all social sectors can compete as professionals or amateurs.
Méndez, meanwhile, highlighted the call for the day in the various disciplines, such as throwing the bullet, rope and marathon. He also handed out awards and spoke about aspects of medical care related to nutrition in sports.
The official announced that the next event will take place on September 23 at the Spanish Center. On that occasion, a research on heteronormativity, movement and actions on sexual diversity in sport, based on women’s soccer, will be presented at the Higher Institute of Physical Education of the University of the Republic (Udelar) and in clubs or sports centers who developed inclusion campaigns. She added that after this stage, a manual of good inclusion practices for the LGBT + population will be developed.
