Government gives funds to young artisans

The Paraguayan Institute of Crafts (IPA) delivered this past Monday the “Jajapo” award from the Paraguayan Crafts Fund, for the support and development of craft practices in different communities in the country.

The president of the Paraguayan Institute of Crafts (IPA) indicated that the award is part of a strategy to promote the continuity of knowledge and crafts bequeathed by families and communities.

The “Jajapo” award, in its second edition, gave G. 5,000,000 in support to the artisans who will also receive a half scholarship from the Universidad Comunera and a mentorship by the IPA for the growth of their enterprises. Likewise, they will receive permanent spaces at the IPA’s “Somos” fair and at this year’s edition of the “Oxígeno” contemporary art fair.

Among the winners of the call are artisans from the Yakavach Noiland and Pedro P. Peña communities of the department of Boquerón, along with artisans from Areguá, Mariano Roque Alonso, and other parts of the country. The Paraguayan Craft Fund is a capital and development fund granted by the IPA for projects to strengthen Paraguayan crafts.

The fund was designed in order to favor the participation of groups that work in the promotion and development of popular and/or indigenous crafts. The owner of the IPA indicated that this reference material will serve to continue generating opportunities that make visible and revalue artisanal knowledge and techniques.
