What is the state of emergency?

The state of emergency is declared when there is a disturbance to the peace or internal order. Article 137 paragraph 1 of the Political Constitution states that the President of the Republic, with the agreement of the Council of Ministers, can determine this regime of exception throughout the national territory or in a specific part.

The intervention of the National Police of Peru and the Armed Forces is carried out in accordance with the provisions of Legislative Decree No. 1186, which establishes rules for the employment and use of force.
