Government expands to 67 school projects under construction for completion and renovation in Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata.- The Government, through the Directorate of School Infrastructure (DIE), of the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD), decided to expand to 67 the school projects under construction for completion, renovations and corrective maintenance in the Atlantic province, within the framework of the “24/7-365 Classrooms Plan”, which is executed throughout the national territory.

During a Joint Working Group held at the Regional Directorate 11 of Education, the head of School Infrastructure, Roberto Herrera, reported that they took stock of the work carried out in 40 educational centers in the province and decided to include another 27 schools, after identifying and evaluating the schools in the most critical conditions, to immediately intervene with corrective maintenance, which includes structural reinforcements, placement of asphalt canvas, painting, repair of bathrooms, cleaning of wells septic tanks, among other actions to guarantee optimal physical conditions in the spaces where students receive teaching.

“Today we have come to the province of Puerto Plata on the instructions of President Luis Abinader and at the request of the Governor, for this day of work and supervision of school works, as part of the Government’s commitment to continue strengthening education, because classrooms in decent conditions are a fundamental pillar for teaching and learning,” said Herrera.

He indicated that by 2026, the Government is scheduled to invest more than six billion in corrective maintenance work, of which more than two billion will be executed in the coming months through raffles and bidding processes in coordination with the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA).

Among the educational centers that are being intervened in Puerto Plata are the Antera Mota Middle Level School; Roselia Hernandez and Salomé Ureña in the municipality of Imbert, where 12 schools will be repaired, in addition, the San Marcos Primary School, Hermanas Mirabal, El Burro School, Nava Primary and Los Olivas, where the completion works in some centers are more than 90% advanced.

After highlighting the positive impact of the works, the Governor of the Province, Claritza Rochtte Peralta, highlighted the importance of these works for school infrastructure, which translates into the strengthening of the educational system in the Cibao-Norte region, essentially for Puerto Plata and benefiting more than 3,000 students in the area.

The work day concluded with a supervision tour of the Antera Mota Middle Level Educational Center and the 1st Basic School. Pilot Lieutenant José E. Rosario.
