On behalf of the Government, the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, did not rule out decreeing a State of Emergency Constitutional Emergency in the north of the country as a result of the situation in the area. This, after National Renovation put it as a condition on the table where a national agreement on security is discussed.

The Secretary of State has reiterated that the military deployment in said area of the country is not reasonable, since for that scenario there is an indication to the critical infrastructure project, which allows military deployment on the border.

However, despite his marked refusal, Tohá stated that these and other measures will be analyzed and evaluated.

“We are in a working group that is in the last phase of this agreement, when we arrive at the proposals we have for this commitment in terms of border control and illegal migration, what I would expect is that we discuss the different proposals there and visions that exist and let’s try to build an agreement,” Tohá said.
