From Santa Marta, the Minister of Mines, Irene Vélez, ruled out what was said by the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, about the possibility that the country could suffer a blackout in 2023 if the Hidroituango megaproject does not start operating this year.

The official clarified this issue in the framework of the public hearing of the Accidental Commission of the Congress of the Republic that was held in the capital of Magdalena to analyze the price of the energy tariff on the coast.
Velez said thatIt is important not to generate that feeling of insecurity regarding the supply of electricity”.
His pronouncement also supported what was stated by XM, the operating company of the National Interconnected System, XM, the operating company of the National Interconnected System, which said that up to now only theThe requirements to start the tests and not to generate energy commercially through Hidroituango.
“XM, which is precisely the one that regulates and who makes sure of the levels in the reservoirs, which is making the estimates, said that Dr. Quintero is wrong in those estimates; and I think that XM is the indicated authority to do those analyzes“said the minister.

Fee reduction on the Coast
Also during the event, the Minister of Mines and Energy who recognized that the value paid for the energy service is especially high in the Caribbean region, indicated that in Colombia there is already a downward trend.
“There has already been a reduction of 4.2% national average and 5.6% in the department of Magdalena between August and October. We hope that this curve will continue as a result of the measures adopted in the Pact for Tariff Justice”, Irene Vélez maintained.

Last Wednesday, in the middle of Commission V of the Senate, the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, referred to Hidroituango.
“If Hidroituango did not catch on, then next year we would be talking about rationing without a doubt because the country’s energy demand is growing and the trend will not change because we say so.
