Government defends Minister Izkia Siches from criticism for ostracism: "She is fundamental"

The Government came out in defense of the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches, who spent several days in silence due to the communicational controversies she starred in during the first months of President Gabriel Boric’s mandate.

It was the minister spokeswoman Camila Vallejo who came out against the criticism of the absence of the head of the Interior, alluding to the fact that the former president of Colmed is fundamental and has the full support of La Moneda. Previously Izkia Siches, coming out of ostracism, promised to have a more “serene” and “temperate” attitude in the Ministry of the Interior.

The government spokeswoman assured that Minister Izkia Siches not only has the confidence of President Gabriel Boric, but also of the entire political committee and the entire cabinet. “She is fundamental, one always has to be self-critical, but also highlight the value that she has, with her courage and bravery, having assumed such an important responsibility at this political moment,” Camila Vallejo said in an interview with Channel 13.

“There have been situations that we have been correcting, but she has not only the support, but also the political appreciation of our government for all the work she is carrying out with all the difficulties we have,” he stressed.

Minister Vallejo explained that “sometimes there are ministers who have greater visibility, but that does not mean that the others are not working on the same objectives.” And she added: “We are a work team, and sometimes we can see each other more than others, but we are all working and especially the Minister of the Interior, who is chief of staff.”

The Secretary of State stressed that the Monday meetings, the extended committee with the ruling parties, are led by the Minister of the Interior. So, she commented, “one thing is how many times a minister appears publicly and another is the internal work that is done to achieve progress in our program objectives and bills as well.”

Camila Vallejo emphasized that Izkia Siches is in charge but stated that to demonstrate that one is in charge “it is not necessary to always be in the press, but rather to work as befits a Ministry of the Interior by conducting government work and in that the minister is doomed (…) sometimes they are sticks because you play or because you don’t play”.
