The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) created a working group (WG) to support the implementation of the Observatory of Rural Women in Brazil. The project aims to support proposals for the improvement, formulation and implementation of public policies and other programs to strengthen the presence of women in Brazilian agribusiness, whether in agricultural, forestry or aquaculture activities.
The ordinance establishing the group was published today (19) in the Official Diary of the Union and takes effect on November 1, 2022.
According to the document, the collegiate is responsible for supporting the structuring of a database and information relevant to rural women; to advise the execution of actions that aim to give visibility and identify restrictions to the work of rural women; and guide, through recommendations, the formulation and implementation of actions and public policies for rural women.
It will be composed of representatives, holders and substitutes, of the following secretariats of the Ministry of Agriculture: Executive; Special on Land Affairs; of Family Agriculture and Cooperatives; of Aquaculture and Fisheries; of Commerce and International Relations; of Agricultural Defense; Innovation, Sustainable Development and Irrigation; and Agricultural Policy. The National Supply Company (Conab) and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) will also have seats on the collegiate.
Result
The term for the group’s work is one year, from the appointment of its members, extendable for another year, only once. At the end, a report should be issued to consolidate the results of the activities developed, which will be sent to the Secretary of Family Agriculture and Cooperatives.
The Working Group will be coordinated by the Secretariat of Family Agriculture and Cooperativism of Mapa and by the Embrapawhich heads the project of the Observatory of Rural Women in Brazil, in partnership with Mapa and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
According to the agency, the observatory is part of the Strategic Intelligence System of the Embrapa (Agropensa) and is a tool that responds to the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, especially SDG 5, referring to goal 5.b: “increase the use of basic technologies, in particular, technologies of information and communication, to promote the empowerment of women”.
