President Luis Abinader took the oath of thousands of people who were incorporated into 808 cooperatives that have been constituted during this administration, within the framework of the program for the Promotion of the Social and Solidarity Economy of the Executive Power.
Abinader announced the creation of the Credit Unit Bagrícola-Idecoop Cooperative, in which the Special Fund for Agricultural Development, the National Council for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Promipyme), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Economy and the Dominican Council of Fisheries and Aquaculture will participate.
An accompaniment program is also going to start so that the communities in which they intervene and carry out their activities cooperatives improve with the revitalization of the social solidarity economy.
Abinader highlighted that his government doubled in just 18 months the number of cooperatives that existed in the Dominican Republic.
The president sees cooperativism as one of the best alternatives to bring safe and lasting progress to the people. “The cooperatives by their nature, they guarantee to keep people united around a productive purpose and strengthen their ability to manage plans and projects,” he said.
These 808 new institutions are distributed in 228 cooperatives from Santo Domingo, 65 from Azua, 66 from Barahona and 51 from San Juan de la Maguana. While 45 belong to Cotuí, 56 to Dajabón, 36 to Neyba, 40 to La Vega, 82 to San Cristóbal, 63 to San Pedro de Macorís, 28 to San Francisco de Macorís and 48 to Santiago.
The cooperatives they were incorporated through various decrees and are of various types: 264 agricultural; 210 for production, work and multiple services, and 334 for savings, credit and multiple services.
