Government confirms forgiveness of drinking water and electricity debts to those affected by forest fires

Along with affirming that State aid for those affected by the forest fires in the south-central zone of the country has already begun to be delivered, the head of the Labor and Social Welfare portfolio, Minister Jeannette Jara, announced the cancellation of debts of drinking water and electricity bills to families who lost their homes in the Biobío and Ñuble regions.

“We have been delivering close to $2,200 million pesos that will be transferred this week for 1,742 households that have been affected and that are already registered in the Fibe file (Basic Emergency File),” began Minister Jara, at a point of press after a new committee.

Thus, in the line of early aid, the Secretary of State reported that, after concluding a public-private alliance, the cancellation of debts of said basic services will be carried out in the areas affected by the flames.

“We want to inform you that we have reached an agreement with the private sector, in a public-private alliance, to forgive debts for drinking water and electricity bills for families who lost their homes.” This, “product of the fires in the Bío Bío and Ñuble regions,” he specified.

It should be noted that this initiative is added to the “Early Aid and Recovery Plan” that the Government is working on. These are directed only to families affected by forest fires.
