Government clarifies how the contribution of independent workers will be

Recently, a ruling by the Constitutional Court showed that there was a legal vacuum on how they had to quote independent workers. Situation that generated uncertainty in this population, in contractors and rentiers.

However, the Ministries of Labor, Finance and Health issued a concept to give them peace of mind. There they explained that the contribution base of independent workers will be over 40 percent of salary and not over 100 percent as had been commented.

The foregoing, because the Court declared as unconstitutional article 244 of Law 19/55 of 2019 that indicated that the independent could contribute social security on 40 percent of their contracts.

Self-employed workers must be clear about how they should deduct their social security. They must do it as they have been doing and we are correcting the sentence”, pointed out the outgoing Labor Minister, Ángel Custodio Cabrera.

Regarding the payment overdue month, the Ministry of Labor clarified that the norm will continue to be applied in accordance with explained in Decree 780 of 2016.
