Government carries out an operation to repair 300 houses affected by Fiona in Ramón Santana

RAMÓN SANTANA – Government institutions today carried out an extensive operation in this municipality to help rebuild more than 300 homes that were affected by Hurricane Fiona and delivered thousands of food rations, both raw and cooked, to needy families in the community.

The operation was led by the executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumer), Eddy Alcántara, who was assigned by President Luis Abinader to carry out a survey on the damage caused by the atmospheric phenomenon in this demarcation, and the Vice Minister of the Presidency Alberto Rodríguez.

It was reported that the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos Echavarría, appointed, on instructions from President Abinader, the Vice Minister of Relations with Civil Society, Alberto Rodríguez, to represent that ministry in the operation to rebuild homes and assist affected families. by the hurricane in this municipality.

Rodríguez joined the work of helping and assisting the affected families with a shipment of construction materials of five thousand zinc and wood plates so that each family that received damage to their home can return to normality.

The operation was carried out in coordination with the municipal authorities, headed by Mayor Santa Cecilia Valdez.

Alcántara, who has been in the municipality since Friday visiting the most affected communities, has been holding meetings with local authorities and people whose homes were damaged, to whom he promised on behalf of President Abinader “to attend to the needs of each family affected by the hurricane”.

He stated that the priority, in addition to repairing the houses and feeding each family affected by the hurricane, is the total restoration of the electrical service, mainly in the urban area and the communities of La Cubana, La Balsa, La Sierra, Batey 16 , Jagual, Eureka and others.

Alcántara explained that according to the survey that was carried out, a total of 357 houses whose roofs were destroyed after being hit by the strong winds of Hurricane Fiona, “as well as fallen trees of all sizes, which prevents the flow of traffic in various communities.

He said that the communities most affected by the destruction of homes are Ramón Santana, where 60 houses were found to be in poor condition, and Batey Margarita with 40, while Batey Atilano 1 reported 25; in Batey Atilado 2, 32; Batey Soco, 30; Batey Jagual, 15, and in Eureka, 17, among others.

Homes with destroyed roofs were also reported in Guanábano, Paso del Medio, Batey Regajo, Batey Balsa 17, Batey Negro, La Antena 16, Los Arados and others.

The report offered by Dr. Alcántara indicates that due to the floods caused by rivers and streams in the area, several communities were cut off, including Paso del Medio, Concho Primo, La Cubana, Batey Lima, Batey Piñones, Batey Cabeza de Toro, La Curbita, Loma Alduey, Los Rijo, among others.
