He government officially called the Elections 2026 to elect new regional and municipal authorities, in accordance with the constitutional calendar. The decision was formalized by a supreme decree published in the official newspaper El Peruano.
The standard establishes that the regional elections and municipal elections They will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, the date set by electoral legislation for the renewal of governors, mayors and subnational councils at the end of the current mandate.

According to the decree, the electoral process will allow the election of regional governors and vice-governors, as well as members of regional councils. In parallel, citizens will elect provincial and district mayors and councilors throughout the national territory.

Renewal of authorities and rules of the 2026 electoral process
The provision specifies that the mandate of the current regional and municipal authorities ends on December 31, 2026. For this reason, the Executive had to call elections within the legal deadlines to guarantee democratic continuity in subnational governments.
