Government calls it “mockery” and “arrogance” that Trump has returned Cuba to the list of sponsors of terrorism

The Cuban Government called the decision of donald trump to return Cuba to the list of countries sponsoring terrorism this Monday.

trump returned to the island to that list as part of the extensive package of executive orders that he signed in the first hours of his second term and just six days after Cuba was excluded by his predecessor, Joe Biden.

In reaction to the measure—which many analysts considered highly probable—Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel considered He described it as “an act of arrogance and contempt for the truth” and argued that the “objective” behind this step is to strengthen “the cruel economic war against Cuba for the purposes of domination.”

In a series of messages on the social network The result of the “extreme economic siege measures” imposed by Trump in his first term and resumed now has been to “cause shortages” for Cubans and a “significant increase” in the migratory flow. to the United States

“This act of mockery and abuse confirms the discredit of the lists and unilateral coercive mechanisms of the US Government. The legitimate and noble cause of our people will prevail and will once again win,” he added.

For his part, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stated in X that “drunk with arrogance,” Trump decided “for no reason that Cuba sponsors terrorism.”

“He knows that he is lying,” he added, while, in line with Díaz-Canel, he noted that “his efforts are to increase punishment and the economic war against Cuban families” and said that although “it will cause damage,” “it will not subdue the firm determination of our people.”

Rodríguez, who after the exclusion of the island from the list by Biden had said that that list had “been demolished” and that the new US Administration would take “time and work to reverse it,” he noted now that Trump’s decision on Cuba He joined the “new medieval measures and civilizational regression” taken by the Republican after his return to the presidency.

With the return by decree of Cuba to the list of countries that sponsor terrorism, Trump resumes the measure that he himself had established in the final days of his first term and that it took Biden four years to undo.

In this way, the Democrat’s decision – which at the time Havana considered a limited measure, but in the “right direction” – barely remained in force for less than a week and in practice it had no effect beyond its symbolism. .

In making that announcement, the outgoing Administration had also suspended the ability of Americans to sue in United States courts for the expropriation of their properties in Cuba and had eliminated the blacklist of restricted Cuban entities—imposed by Trump—with which citizens from their country they were prohibited from maintaining any ties.

Remaining on the list of States that, in the opinion of the US authorities, sponsor terrorism at an international level implies a series of strong financial and other restrictions for the countries included on it.
