The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, headed this Tuesday afternoon the construction of the Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Subwaywhich runs from kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway to Los Alcarrizos.
The work, which will extend 7.3 kilometershas a projection to be delivered in 24 months, with an approximate investment of $506 million.
The first symbolic pierce was made in the sector EnriquilloSanto Domingo Oeste, by the Head of State and Rafael Santos Perezexecutive director of the Office for the Reorganization of Transport (Opret), state entity that will be in charge of the project.
Santos Pérez explained that the LMetro line 2C will have five seasonswhich will form part of the Integrated Metro-Transport SystemSanto Domingo cable car.
The stops will be located next to the freeway with access from the street at ground level. They are going to join a marginal road to decongest the Duarte highway, along the entire line, the official explained.
The project also contemplates the road adaptation of the streets adjacent to the marginal, to produce a better flow of vehicles.
While President Abinader stated that it will have a great positive impact not only on the environment but also on the thousands of people who will use this means of public transport.
The president acknowledged that families use 30% of their income to cover transportation.
He cited data from Road Safety Observatorypublished by the World Bank, in Latin America there is an average of 230 vehicles per thousand inhabitants, but in the case of the Dominican Republic, it exceeds 300 vehicles for that number of residents.
In that sense, Abinader added: “We are determined to transform the cities of our country, all of them, under the same scheme; adapt them to the 21st century, make them sustainable, friendly and comfortable. This work, which begins its journey today, captures it perfectly”.
In the activity, they were present together with the president, Deligne Ascención, Minister of Public Works; Julia Drullard, Governor of the Santo Domingo province; Darío Castillo, Minister of Public Administration; Catalino Correo Hiciano, Comptroller General of the Republic, among other officials.
