Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader, together with Minister of Education Roberto Fulcar, presented the 2022 Teaching Excellence medal to four outstanding teachers for their careers in teaching, which this year paid tribute to teacher Pablo María Hernández Disla.
The first lady Raquel Arbaje accompanied the president in the Las Cariátides Hall of the National Palace, where 10 teachers were also awarded the Excellence of Teachers of Higher Education Institutions of the Dominican Republic.
Speaking a few words, the president declared that both he and his government have an absolute commitment to building a decent educational system equipped with the best material and human resources.
Similarly, the head of state specified that teachers are the ones who form generations that are increasingly supportive, progressive, tolerant and committed.
“You, all of you, are the fundamental pillar on which the future of a society is built. That is why I want to express my gratitude for such a commendable job that undoubtedly requires a special vocation of service to others,” said the president.
He pointed out that together with the educators, he will continue to build an educational system that is a reference of good work, inside and outside the country.
He assured that he is very clear about the importance of education to achieve a fair and prosperous country, to change people’s lives and to forge better citizens. “In short, education to live better, as defined by the educational model that drives our government management.”
For his part, Fulcar stressed that the country fortunately has very remarkable teachers, “we have a whole pool of veterans and thriving educators and meritorious educators whom we can exalt for their demonstrated abilities.”
He considered that an effectively managed comprehensive education fortifies, unites, consolidates and provides coherence to an identity and a national ideal.
“Through education, the discernment of the language and of the patriotic symbols, the natural symbols and the distinctive signs, such as our flag, its shield or the patriotic hymns, is achieved,” Fulcar indicated.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Franklin García Fermín said that “it is now, in 2022, when a statesman with a broad vision such as the president, Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona, decides to issue a decree through which the Regulations for the Annual Award for Excellence in Teaching at Higher Education Institutions in the Dominican Republic are created”.
He stated that it is President Abinader who is currently awarding for the first time in national history the excellence of the teacher of higher education institutions.
“Given that education is essential for the material and immaterial development of peoples, it is highly significant for Dominicans to have a head of state who is convinced that the main task of a ruler is to educate his people,” he said. Garcia Fermin.

On the occasion of celebrating Teacher’s Day on June 30, Sandra Lebrón Montero was recognized in the “Honor” category: Pedro Henríquez Ureña; Emeterio Rijo Castillo, in the category “Recognition” Eugenio María de Hostos, and Sandra Guerrero Rodríguez, in the category “Encouragement” Salomé Ureña de Henríquez, who received a medal, a recognition plaque and a cash contribution.
Likewise, Marilyn Ramírez, who was recognized for her outstanding teaching work in the city of Upper Manhattan in favor of the community of Dominican students with special conditions.
Also, 10 teachers awarded for the Excellence of the Teacher of Higher Education Institutions of the Dominican Republic were recognized, among these are: Dr. Jesús Feris Iglesias, Carmen Dolores Durán Yulden, Dionicia Altagracia Reynoso García, Architect Zamira Asilis de Estévez, Ana Luisa Garib Sánchez, Pedro Sergio Ramírez, Manuel Ramón Sosa Pichardo, Omar Alejandro Estévez Estévez, Kelvison Alejandro Reyes Alcequiez and Leandra Onaney Tapia Acosta.

During the activity, Pablo María Hernández Disla was recognized for his outstanding career in education, who when speaking thanked his family and said that the true teacher transcends the classroom and influences all areas, “a teacher must always be an educator.”
Similarly, Carmen Durán, when pronouncing a few words, pointed out that teachers are wisdom and a spirit of altruism. She added that this is a propagator of ideas and projects.
