Government assures that it eradicated 9,458 hectares of coca leaf crops in 2021

In 2021, 9,458 hectares of surplus coca leaf crops were eradicated above the average of the last steps, reported the Ministry of Government in the Accountability hearing that took place in Tarija.

According to the government department report, that amount exceeds 1,770 hectares in the 2019-2020 period and 8,300 hectares throughout 2008-2018.

The eradication of coca leaf plantations in the country was disclosed based on data from the Vice Ministry of Social Defense and Controlled Substances at the surrender hearing that took place last Thursday.

In addition, in 2021, 9,432 drug interdiction operations were carried out, two criminal organizations (Operative Galponier and Bolivarian) were dismantled and 19.73 tons of cocaine and 190.73 tons of marijuana were seized.

The anti-drug force destroyed 800 factories for the production of the alkaloid, including 51 laboratories, of which 26 crystallization and 25 recycling.

On the other hand, 520 tons of solid chemical substances were seized in the different operations, 296.7 tons of coca leaf and 799 M3 of liquid chemical substances.

Added to these data is the confiscation of 18 small planes and two helicopters in 2021.

The Ministry of Government, in the Accountability hearing, disclosed that the affectation to drug trafficking was in the order of US$ 36.3 million.

Bolivia also strengthened the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes, through bilateral agreements signed with Peru, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile.

delicate moment

The Government report comes at a time when the issue of drug trafficking has become relevant due to violent acts and the arrest of the former director of the Special Force to Fight Drug Trafficking, Maximiliano Dávila.

Dávila is accused of drug trafficking in the United States, while in the country he is prosecuted for the alleged commission of the crime of legitimization of illicit profits. His arrest has affected the management of Evo Morales, who would be on the radar of the DEA (Drug Control Administration). Similarly, they attribute closeness to high-ranking officials of the ruling party.

Another element that reinforces the position that drug trafficking has strengthened its presence and operations in Bolivia are the violent deaths of Brazilians Everton Cándido Gomes da Silva (in San Matías) and Marciel Ribeiro de Oliveira (in Santa Cruz de la Sierra). Both riddled, the first received 17 shots and the second 11.

According to the Brazilian media, Gomes was one of the 30 captured during Operation Return that the Brazilian Federal Police carried out in 2009 and was the head of a group of drug traffickers.. He had 17 processes in the Federal Regional Court of the First Region (TRF), four of them in the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).

Meanwhile, Ribeiro, according to Brazilian media, was considered in his country as the biggest drug traffickers in the state of Goiás.. Better known as the “narco of ostentation”, he was arrested for the first time in 2016, in Brazil. At that time, a boat valued at $1 million dollars and a car that cost $500,000 were seized.

The presence of Brazilian drug traffickers in the national territory was denounced in October 2021, by the São Paulo State Newspaper and the Bandeirantes television network., which published investigations into the activities carried out by the First Capital Command (PCC) criminal gang and its ‘Narcosur’ cartel in Santa Cruz.

In the material, a drug trafficker from Brazil known as “El Gordo” (of the PCC) and his son were seen strolling placidly through the city of the rings. According to Bandeirantes, the Brazilian would have the support of the corrupt Bolivian military and police, who are part of his illicit operations scheme, which includes the Calabrian Mafia.

According to the media of the neighboring country, Brazilian drug traffickers invest in restaurants, beauty clinics and other businesses in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
