Government assures DR recorded 126 homicides and 19,994 fewer robberies in 2024 compared to 2023

Santo Domingo.- The Joint Task Force, made up of the Ministry of the Interior and Police, the Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Defense, the National Police, the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and the National 911 Emergency System, announced a significant reduction in all crime indicators during 2024. These results consolidate the Dominican Republic as one of the safest countries in the hemisphere.

At the security level, preventive and operational actions recorded historic figures in the reduction of homicides during 2024.

In detail, during the past year there were 126 fewer homicides and 19,994 fewer robberies compared to 2023. In this sense, 54% of homicides were related to social conflicts, such as disputes over debts, loud music, property and parking.

Likewise, Santiago and the three main municipalities of Santo Domingo achieved single-digit homicide rates, as did 14 provinces. It is highlighted that the
The weapon most used in homicides was the pistol (64.97%), and the events occurred mainly on Sundays and at night.

International drug trafficking and microtrafficking

The Dominican Republic leads the fight against drug trafficking in the Caribbean, with more than 44 tons of drugs seized. A total of 44,348 kilograms (44.3 tons) of drugs were seized, marking a record in the fight against drug trafficking.

Likewise, more than 13,421,399 grams of drugs were removed from the streets in 250,000 operations and 3,431 raids carried out nationwide in just one year.

In addition, 48,099 people were arrested, consolidating the Dominican Republic as one of the most efficient countries in the region in the fight against drug trafficking and micro-trafficking.

Fight organized crime

The strategic operations place the country as a regional reference against organized crime.

Operations such as “Nido”, “Caimán”, “Gaviota” and “Pandora”, in cooperation with the Public Ministry, dismantled networks of real estate fraud, drug trafficking, money laundering, cybercrime and arms trafficking in the National Police, consolidating the country as a regional leader in this area.

Gender violence

More than 61 thousand complaints attended to and femicides decreased in 2024. 61,876 complaints were received, 8,450 arrest warrants were executed, and 38,855 people were assisted. Likewise, 535 minors were rescued, and 372 women were sent to shelters.

Operation “Peace Guarantee”

This initiative for citizen security impacted 31 provinces with more than 3.7 million operations.

Implemented in 31 provinces, this operation included 3,760,077 preventive operations, 21,566 arrest warrants executed and 9,274 raids. 6,397 firearms and 45,133 bladed weapons were retained, highlighting their impact on reducing social conflict and protecting children.
