In the middle of the “Summer of Open Data” event held by the Abriendo Datos Foundation, together with Flacsco Chile, the Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres), Ana Lya Uriarte, announced two important commitments in which the Government will work on the theme.
In order to promote the debate on what has been achieved after a decade of open data in the country, as well as the next steps to strengthen an ecosystem of data with purpose, the event brought together various authorities that included the public, private, academia, society civil and public safety.
Specifically, the head of Segpres announced two commitments for the open data community on which the Government of President Gabriel Boric will work: promoting a new open data roadmap and relaunching the National Open Data Portal.
“At Segpres we work on agendas that are associated with open data. The pandemic is hard and digitization made it possible to carry out procedures from home. This reflection is so important for our Government to try to facilitate the citizen-State meeting so that the citizen feels that it is easier to reach the State,” said Uriarte.
“We have to promote open data, and we are working on the relaunch of this national open data portal with the necessary information. It is useful information that citizens require,” added the Secretary of State.
Along the same lines, the Head of the Digital Government Division, José Inostroza, explained that in this area “we are ranked 12th in America and 10th in Latin America. It is not that we are progressing, but rather that the rest are advancing faster. gaps are identified in usability, data quality. Those who have data do not consider it so necessary to share it. We are going to launch the data portal and our commitment is to move towards a knowledge society”.
For his part, the Director of the Program for Public Policies for Digital Development in Latin America and the Caribbean at Flacsco, Rodrigo Ramírez, pointed out that “we need to establish a national open data policy, where all actors are involved.”
“The opening of data is no longer a marginal industry, but rather a central line of development. The pandemic was little used as a space for innovation. Very little information was made available. There is a lot of data for entertainment and little mass of useful data The data must have a purpose, we need to generate data economy to improve our development matrix”, he closed.
