In the midst of the state of emergency decreed by groups of bakers, the Government announced this Tuesday afternoon that, if necessary, “all stored” wheat will be used to guarantee the supply of flour for bread making and is already talking about a pre-agreement with Argentina.
The Minister of Rural Development and Lands, Remmy Gonzales, specified that the Government signed agreements with bakeries from all departments for the supply of bread at a fair price and weight.
In this framework, he said that there is no official information on the complaints of the bakery groups.
“We have very clearly demonstrated to the bakery brothers that we are not going to run out of wheat flour, we have stored more than 130,000 tons with the Wheat Program, in this winter campaign, we are going to sow more than 140,000 hectares of wheat,” he said, citing an institutional bulletin.

An extension of the Federation of Artisan Bakers of La Paz decided on Monday night to stop making the battle bread (marraqueta) due to the increase in the price of Argentine flour due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Gonzales assured that the provision of the input is guaranteed and announced: “we are going to remove everything stored, if it is missing we will manage; We started sowing at the end of April and before August we will already have 280,000 more tons of wheat produced in Bolivia”.
In this context, he pointed out that wheat cultivation will be encouraged with attractive prices for producers in the country and “at the same time, work is being done with Argentina, thanks to the efforts of our brother president, a preliminary agreement has been closed and we will not lack the flour”.
