The government decided that the benefits for foreign tourists that generally take effect during the summer are applied from the September 1.
After meeting with President Lacalle Pou, the Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, reported that foreigners who visit the country from next month will have Zero VAT on hotels, gastronomy and car rentals. In addition, the return of the credit of 10.5% (of the total agreed price) will be applied for rentals of homes intended for tourist use.
Viera indicated that the measure will be extended until April 30, 2023. “It is an effort by the government to make the country more attractive from the economic point of view for markets such as the Argentinian“, said.

He explained that beyond seeking to prevent the arrival of Argentines due to the exchange difference, they also seek to attract other tourists, mainly from Brazil, which represents between 15% and 18% of total tourism.
The government continues to study what benefits it will grant to resident tourists.
